Some Tips From NotebookLM
#

To move beyond simple dialect swaps and broaden my Shami (Levantine) vocabulary, I fed my posts into NotebookLM and asked for upgrades. Here’s the keeper list — phrases that add nuance, personality, and a bit of professional polish.

When writing about daily life, these help express mental load and habits more naturally:

مِشاغِب /mishāghib/

For the job search or dev work, a little more precision:

Professional & technicalالشغل والتقنية

مؤخّرًا /muʔaxˈxaran/

recently — introducing a new method formal

أجّلناه /ʔajjelnāh/

we postponed it (a meeting / interview)

قدّم امتحان /ʔaddam imtiˈħæn/

يسمحولي / يخلّوني /jismaˈħuːli / jxallːuːni/

to allow / let me (do something)

مُرتّب /muratːab/

organized / tidy

بتواصل مع /btawæːsˤal maʕ/

And these starters help posts flow like a native speaker’s:

Shami sentence startersبدايات شامية

صار معي /ṣār maʕi/

something happened to me / I had…

بَعجبني /baˈʕʒɪbni/

I like to / it pleases me

شو رأيك /ʃuː raʔjak/

what do you think?

مفروض /mafˈruːd/

supposed to / expected to

لو فيني /law ˈfiːni/

if I could (I would have…) conditional

كرمال /kərmāl/

for the sake of / for someone

I post something short here most days while learning Arabic. If this helped, you’ll probably like the next one too.
